The Adult Safeguarding Team, SEL ICB, Lewisham invites you to attend Adult Safeguarding PLT Online training during the April PLT session.
The Sessions will contribute to Level 3 Adult Safeguarding according to Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff / Publications / Royal College of Nursing
Everybody is welcome to attend: You may join all or some of the sessions
1.30pm-1.35pm Welcome and introduction by Fiona Mitchell, Nurse Consultant Adult Safeguarding Designate and Dr Alice Wu, Named GP Adult and Child Safeguarding Lewisham SEL ICB
1.35pm-2.05pm A General Update and Briefing on Areas of New and Updated Local Policy, Guidance and Legislation and Adult Safeguarding. A summary of relevant news and important information to help keep professionals well informed will be included.
2.05 – 3.05pm: Understanding and Responding to Domestic Abuse in Health Settings.
Get ready to dive deep into the complexities of domestic abuse and explore the crucial role of safety measures on the frontline
Health professionals are often the first point of contact for victim-survivors of domestic abuse — but do you know how to spot the signs, assess risk, and act safely?
This essential training session will equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools to intervene early and help save lives.
What you'll learn:
- Understand the dynamics of domestic abuse and coercive control
- Recognise health-related indicators and patterns of risk
- Identify high-risk indicators for serious harm
- Make safe, informed referrals and navigate local pathways
- Apply trauma-informed principles in your daily practice
This session is designed for all professionals in the Health Sector clinical and non-clinical and to anyone working with vulnerable individuals in frontline or safeguarding roles
3.10 – 3.45pm: The New Mental Health Act 2025
Presented by Thomas Mulrenan Lead Operational Manager for Adult Mental Health Safeguarding, Practice Development and Quality Assurance AMHP/BIA/Practice Educator
- To provide an update on the changes introduced by the new Mental Health Act 2025
- To discuss the interface between the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act 2025
