With multiple patient nominations and consisently praised for their exceptional compassion, professionalism, and dedicatin to patient care, creating a safe and reassuring environment for every visit. Described as someone who always listens attentively, explans medical information clearly and goes above and beyond to ensure patients feel valued, supported and empowered.
This innovative service offers longer, dedicated appointments for 11-19 year-olds to address mental and physical health needs through a strengths-based approach. Young people can self-refer or be booked by their GP with care plans developed including follow-up, specialist referrals and links to community support. The clinic aims to improve health literacy, prevent future harm and reduce inequalities.
Established to improve collaboration and trust, strengthen communication and enhance patient care while reducing unnecessary workload across both GP practices and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, this initiative has already delivered quick wins such as better contact-sharing systems, an "inappropriate request" process, a WhatsApp group for rapid issue resolution, podcasts for shared learning, a 'walk in my shoes' programme and joint grand rounds.
Having held numerous leadership roles across Lewisham over the years including CCG Chair, PCN Clinical Director and Chair of The Lewisham Primary Care Leadership Forum, this individual has shown exceptional leadership and dedication to the borough, consistently advocating for patients and fostering strong partnerships. Many congratulations to Debbie Brown, SELWDH's Director of Nursing and our very own incredible Clinical Director, for her well-deserved spot on the 2024 MBE Honours List.
This is an enormous and much deserved achievement in recognition of Debbie's outstanding service to general practice nursing.
Debbie is an experienced nurse of over 47 years, almost 30 of which have been spent in primary care, within general practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
Debbie founded Lewisham CEPN Training Hub in 2017 to provide a range of training and development opportunities for all staff groups.
Debbie was born and raised in Lewisham, trained at Lewisham Hospital, continues to work in Lewisham and is passionate about the borough and the people who live and work here.
Debbie is shown on the right, following receiving her MBE from Princess Anne on Wednesday 17th April 2024.
